and Andrew Kay & David Vigo | The Soweto Gospel Choir was founded to celebrate the exceptional energy and inspiring strength of South African Gospel music. The choir, under the direction of David Mulovhedzi and Beverly Bryer, attracts the best in talents of the many churches of Soweto and surroundings and wishes to share the joy of faith through music. During the show African Spirit, the Soweto Gospel Choir, two times Grammy Award winner, plays a repertoire that recalls aspects of the history of the Rainbow Nation, capturing its beauty and passion and celebrating the strength of human spirit. Through lively rhythms, dances, and vocal research, the Choir performs songs that recall the past, as well as songs of joy and prayer for the present and the future. The show includes songs that deal with the many different aspects of human spirit: religious (gospels), love for a particular person (‘I’ll Remember You’ by Bob Dylan) or the desire of living together in harmony among people (‘World in Union’).
Among singers, dancers and percussionists, with its 22 artists on stage, African Spirit shakes our souls and conveys to the audience the beauty and passion that so strongly distinguish Africa. |
