Is it possible that what we call “reality” is nothing more than the overlapping of representations? The Investigation Project 2007-2008, Cristo, deals with this very modern issue: the fleetingness of reality in all its aspect. A survey through theatre on the possibilities and limits of representation, this acting piece offers an in-depth contemplation on the fusion of theatre and audiovisual arts, and analyses the theme adding a touch of irony and humour that strengthens the feeling of destabilization of everything considered evident and irrefutable. Spurred by the desire of creating an osmosis between the audience and European artists, the Teatro de Chile embarked on to this creative project with a three-month tour in Amsterdam, supported by Crea Fonds (Institute for the Funding of Arts of the University of Amsterdam) and the Faculty of Theatrical Studies of UvA. This creative process, that was mainly meant to investigate the creative possibilities of audiovisual means, reached its peak with the debut of a “work in progress” called It is never the Last Supper, a highly successful show.Starting from the experience of the first phase of this project, and adding to it the experience of artists and actors coming from other creative fields, Teatro de Chile has begun a second tour in Santiago del Chile, with the support of Fondart, during which it has planned to develop the themes explored in Amsterdam more in depth. After a period of six months of preparation, this phase ended with the debut of the definite performance staged in January 2008 at the Matucana 100 hall. This season, followed by a second over the months of March and April 2008, will eventually lead Teatro de Chile back to Amsterdam, as the starting point for a long-term European tour. |
