Victoria Abril began her career as a dancer at seven years old and reached her fame through a TV contest, Un, dos, très. In 1975 she changed her path and was part of the picture Obsesion directed by Lara Polop followed in 1977 by Cambio de sexo by Vicente Aranda that added prestige to her rising career. Her direct and polemic personality made her the perfect character for Bigas Luna´s La muchacha de las bragas de oro in 1979.
Since then, she acted in more than 100 movies, shot mostly in Spain but also in Italy, Portugal, Island, besides a US experiences that she swore to never repeat... She received endless awards in the International Festivals of Berlin, San Sebastian, Durban, and Cartagena for pictures as El Lute, Camina o revient (Lute, Forge on or Die), Amantes or Tacones lejanos (High Heels), besides a Goya as Best Actress for her performance in Nadie hablarà de nosotras cuando hayamos muerto.
After working with directors as Pedro Almodovar, Vicente Aranda, Agustin Diaz Yanes, Juan Antonio Bardem, Jaime Chavarri, Manuel Gutiérrez Aragón, José Luis Borau, Emilio Martinez Lazaro, Carlos Saura, and Peter Greenaway, her constant experimental research made her approach the world of music, realizing in 2005 the CD of Putcheros do Brasil, immediately acknowledged with a golden record.
Today, the musical adventure of the Madrilène icon continues with a new album: Ô lala! where she sings the great repertoires of French music (Brassens, Nougaro, Vian, Ferré, Trenet, Barbara, and more) on the rhythm of Cajon and flamenco guitars. Love songs full of enigmas in French with a flamenco base: Iberian tones in harmony with French depth, Andalusia as a Parisian neighbourhood... All together, it shakes the souls, offering the audience the beauty and passion that distinguishes Africa.
