His sensitive musical interpretations and his amazing technique, have contributed to consolidating Andrea Griminelli’s career and earning him acknowledgement all over the world, from a Grammy Award to the Prix de Paris to honorary distinctions.

He approached the flute at the age of ten, studied with the legendary Jean-Pierre Rampal and Sir James Galway, who calls him "the greatest flute player risen to the limelight of the music scene in many years". During his studies with J.P. Rampal at the Paris Conservatoire he won competitions in Stresa and Alexandria. In 1983 and 1984 he was awarded the prestigious Prix de Paris.

His international debut takes place in 1984 at the age of twenty-five when he is introduced to the public overseas by Luciano Pavarotti in the memorable concert at Madison Square Gardens in New York and with whom he embarks on an intense collaboration in the following years including the unforgettable concerts at Hyde Park in London in 1990, at Central Park in New York in 1993, at the Eiffel Tower in Paris and in Moscow´s Red Square.

His career is enriched with important concerts and tours in Europe, Japan, South America, United States and throughout the world; he performs in the most prestigious theaters and concert halls from Teatro alla Scala in Milan to the Carnegie Hall in New York alongside artists such as Pretre, Giulini, Metha, Krivine, Sutherland, Bonynge, Rampal, Rojdestvenski, Levine, Lu-Ja, Ughi, Sado, Semkov and Orchestras such as the Royal Philharmonic, Berlin Symphony, Münchner Rundfunkorchester, the London Philharmonic, the New York Philharmonic, the RAI in Turin, the Dallas Symphony and the Los Angeles Philharmonic.

In 1991, he was made a Knight, while in 2003 Officer of Merit of the Italian Republic by the President of the Republic.

He has performed world premieres of new compositions for flute and orchestra written specifically for his instrument by composers including Carlo Boccadoro, Fabrizio Festa, Ennio Morricone, Shigeaki Saegusa.

His artistic activity also boasts collaborations with Luciano Pavarotti, Elton John, James Taylor, Bradford Marsalis and the legendary Ian Anderson leader of the Jethro Tull.

His discography includes flute concertos by Vivaldi and Mercadante (Decca) with the English Chamber Orchestra conducted by J.P. Rampal. In 2001 he records Andrea Griminelli’s Cinema Italiano where the most famous Italian film soundtracks, rearranged by Bacalov and Morricone, are reinterpreted by him along with Sting, Pavarotti, Lucio Dalla, Deborah Harry and Filippa Giordano.

In 1989 he wins a Grammy Award for the CD Live in Modena, Piazza Grande.

In 2005-2006 he focuses on intensive record production with Decca Records: he records the complete works for flute by Mozart with the Camerata Salzburg under the baton of Sir Roger Norrington, a CD of Italian 19th century music for flute and guitar with Filomena Moretti, Beethoven and Schubert’s compositions for flute and piano with Gianluca Cascioli, Rossini’s quartets for wind quartet and quartets for flute and strings by Mozart with the Keller Quartet.

In 2006, there is a tour of South America along with the Italian guitarist Emanuele Segre in the main cities of Chile, Argentina, Uruguay and Brazil, and the Concerto for Flute and Orchestra K313 by Mozart with the Youth Orchestra "Simón Bolívar" in Caracas under the baton of Maestro Gustavo Dudamel.

In September 2007 he was appointed President of the Institute of Musical Studies "A. Peri" in Reggio Emilia and in January 2008 President of the Musical Institute "Claudio Merulo" in Castelnuovo Monti (RE).

He continues his tours regularly in major concert halls throughout the world, including the concert at the Hanoi Opera House for concerts of the Hennessy Concert Series; the concert in Petra in honor of Maestro Luciano Pavarotti, and together with the Moscow Soloists Orchestra conducted by Yuri Bashmet which was later broadcasted worldwide; he participates in the closing concert of the World Cup in South Africa in 2010 and later in Japan with the Tokyo Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Maestro Naoto Otomo; he begins to collaborate actively with Andrea Bocelli performing around the world and participating in memorable concerts including the one in Piazza del Plebiscito in Naples, at the Coliseum in Rome, in the major cities of South America, the United States and Europe.

He is often invited to participate as a jury member in the most important international competitions for Flute, including Rampal International Competition in Paris, the Competition Carl Nielsen in Denmark, while in 2012 he was a jury member in China at the Beijing International Music Competition BJIMC.

His last recording with Decca came out in December 2011 with Vivaldi´s Four Seasons, in the flute version which he specially curated, and the Concertos Op. 10 for flute with the Italian Philharmonic Soloists. In the spring of 2014, Decca released the CD of Sonatas for flute and basso continuo by Bach, which also includes the suite for solo flute and the Trio Sonata for two flutes, recorded together with cello and harpsichord.

He performs regularly on tour in recitals for flute and piano as well as a soloist with orchestra in major cities of India, South America, United States, Italy, Europe, Southeast Asia and Japan.

After graduating with honors, for a diploma in organ and harpsichord, he specializes at the Conservatory of The Hague (NL) under the guidance of Ton Koopman. His work has brought him to perform in the most important halls: the Parco della Musica - Rome, Sala Verdi - Milan, Hercules Saal - Monaco (D), Teatro Colon - Buenos Aires, Kioi Hall - Tokyo ... for the most important festivals: MITO, Sagra Malatestiana, Pergolesi Spontini Festival, Accademia di Santa Cecilia, Musical Evenings, working both as a soloist and accompanist with numerous soloists and orchestras, Orchestra of the Accademia di Santa Cecilia, Mantua Chamber Orchestra, Padua and Veneto Orchestra, the Virtuosi Italiani, L’arte dell’arco, I Barocchisti, etc.

He has recorded several CDs for record labels such as Chandos, Tactus, Arts, Decca and been pointed out by international critics. He is currently recording the complete music of G. Frescobaldi for the label Brilliant winning with the first volume the "National Award of Classical Records 2009". The recordings devoted to the music for harpsichord by B. Pasquini (Chandos-Chaconne) and G.B. Ferrini (Tactus) were winners of the "Preis der deutschen Schallplattenkritik". He teaches at the Conservatory "C. Pollini" in Padua.

He graduated in cello with tutor Gianni Chiampan at the Conservatory C. Pollini of Padua, then continued studying the instrument following perfection courses with Michael Flaksman and Teodora Campagnaro and later with Franco Maggio Ormezowski at the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia in Rome and the Arturo Toscanini Foundation of Parma. He has participated in masterclasses for baroque cello with Walter Vestidello and Gaetano Nasillo and later worked with experts in early music of international fame such as Anner Bylsma, Giuliano Carmignola, Andrea Marcon, Sir John Eliot Gardiner, Diego Fasolis, Bob van Asperen, Gustav Leonhardt and Christopher Hogwood.

The passion for early music led him to the study of the viola da gamba with Paolo Biordi at the Conservatory of Florence, where he graduated in 2007.

Francis Galligioni is a founding member of the Accademia di San Rocco and the Venice Baroque Orchestra, with which he has performed regularly as a principal cellist in the most prestigious concert halls, including the Royal Albert Hall in London, Carnegie Hall in New York City, the Musikverein in Vienna, Tonhalle Zurich, the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, the Théâtre des Champs-Elysées in Paris and the Teatro La Fenice in Venice. He also worked as principal part with the Sonatori della Gioiosa Marca, the Baroque Orchestra of Friuli Venezia Giulia G.B. Tiepolo, I Barocchisti, Oman Consort, Arte dell’Arco, Gambe di Legno Consort, I Virtuosi delle Muse and Opera Stravagante. In addition to numerous recordings with the Venice Baroque Orchestra, he has recorded, among other things, trios with Giuliano Carmignola and Lutz Kirchhof and sonatas with Anner Bylsma.

He has taught at the Musical Institute G.F. Malipiero in Padua, the T. Schipa Conservatory of Lecce, the Conservatory A. Buzzolla in Adria (Rovigo), and at the Conservatory F. Cilea in Reggio Calabria. Currently Galligioni is a professor at the Conservatory N. Paganini in Genoa. In 2004 he held master classes in Sao Paulo, Brazil and in the summer of 2007 at the Ludwigsburger Akademie. He offers the most deserving students who are interested in learning performance practice on period instruments, the opportunity to gain experience by involving them in the concert and recording activities of the Venice Baroque Orchestra. Francesco Galligioni plays a Paolo Antonio Testore cello from 1740 and an original viola da gamba from early 1700s.
