Known all over the world for being the founder and soul of the Festival of Two Worlds in Spoleto, Giancarlo Menotti was also one of the greatest composers and librettists of the twentieth century. He won many awards for his works and all his rich artistic activity, but above all represented a humane and stylistic focus for a type of musical sensitivity open to all languages and dedicated to broader consumption.

It was this sensitivity and the memory of the figure of Menotti that inspired Fabrizio De Rossi Re for the creation of Un canto tra cielo e terra per GCM, in which the cultural dualism at the origin of the Festival of Spoleto is interpreted as a metaphysical momentum.

Across his music, the Cinema too has been a great interpreter of the same relational dimension between Italian tradition and creative American dynamism which Gian Carlo Menotti’s experience demonstrated.

Music is a unique and exciting dimension for the Cinema, and this program presents the music of Rota, Piovani, Morricone, the most interesting and beloved Italian composers for the Cinema united by the peculiarity of being all winners of an Oscar for Best Original Sound Track.

They are Italians, like Giancarlo Menotti, who have significantly contributed to building that solid and fertile artistic bond that unites the Two Worlds creating mutual and steady enrichment.

Renowned soloists and chamber musicians of high artistic value that can boast considerable experience and recognition: this is "UmbriaEnsemble". A musical ensemble characterized, since its inception, by a vibrant artistic and cultural dynamism and the production of concerts and performances in collaboration with the most interesting current artistic realities, fervently convinced that boundaries between the arts and languages are purely academic.

As soloists and chamber musicians, the "UmbriaEnsemble" is already active as the first sector for the Orchestras of the Teatro San Carlo in Naples, the Teatro Comunale of Bologna, the RAI Symphony, and record for Brilliant Classics, Camerata Tokyo, BMG, Dynamic, Tactus. Among the latest successes of the Ensemble there is: the project for music and environment education, "The Nature of Art", in collaboration with Maestri Liutai (Lute Masters); tours to China, Cyprus, France, Holland, England, and the next tours to Belgium, Switzerland and Thailand; the recording of a CD for "Camerata Tokyo" with music by Brahms and Schubert and a large recording project dedicated to Trios and Quartets with Guitar (G. Bandini) by Paganini; the production of the show Storie degli ultimi giorni, inspired by the figure and the work of Luca Signorelli, released on DVD, and the most recent Fratres an original work of Music, Dance, Opera and Poetry inspired by the great figures of Umbria, of the past and the future.
