SCUOLA DI MUSICA DI FIESOLE The Music School of Fiesole was founded in 1974 as a free association by Piero Farulli and a group of musicians and music lovers. It has always emphasized playing music all together: the student starts at the age of six to join the ensemble Crescendo and continues with the Orchestra of the Children, the Orchestra Vincenzo Galilei and finally the Italian Youth Orchestra, which was honored to have conductors such as Abbado, Ferro Muti, Sinopoli, Giulini, Tate. In addition to the base courses, the School offers annual master courses with teachers such as M. Tipo, N. Gutman, P. Vernikov, B. Canino, F. Helmerson, G. Corti, M. Postinghel, C. Desderi, the Trio di Parma. In 2002 it created the European Academy of the Quartet, a network with some of the most important European training centers from Vienna to Zurich, from Paris to Helsinki. Besides the four famous founders, Piero Farulli, Hatto Beyerle, Norbert Brainin, and Milan Skampa, its teachers were composers such as G. Kurtág, V. Berlinsky, S. Sciarrino, A. Corghi, C. Coin, M. Stroppa, F. Vacchi. In 1981 it was awarded the first edition of the Abbiati Music Critics Prize as best music initiative. In 2004 the Italian Youth Orchestra, which since 1984 has trained thousands of professionals, was awarded the Abbiati Prize as best music initiative. In 2005 it received The National President of the Republic Award from Carlo Azeglio Ciampi as recommended by the National Academy of Santa Cecilia, and in 2008 the Praemium Imperiale Grant for Young Artists. Andrea Lucchesini is currently the Artistic Director of the Fiesole School of Music.
