with the patronage of the Società Psicoanalitica Italiana and of the Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia/Cineteca Nazionale

Not everyone knows that Sigmund Freud received the Goethe Award for literature and that some of his writings are very topical, as well as pleasurable reads.

The Film and Psychoanalysis Section presents six films which will be introduced by six well-known psychoanalysts from the Italian Psychoanalytic Society and discussed with actors, directors, films critics and the audience at each screening.

Each film is related to one of Freud′s texts. Young actors from the Italian National Film School will read extracts from these texts.

Valerio Magrelli, Director of the Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia, the critic Italo Moscati, the film director Luca Guadagnino, Fellini′s set designer Dante Ferretti, the director Francesca Comencini, the actress Margherita Buy and the set designer Paolo Bonfini will also be present.

Eternal topics such as war, mourning, femininity, the uncanny, love, the transiency of life and the psychic dynamics which lie at its roots, will be represented in the art films and will then be investigated from a psychoanalytic perspective to bring to light the unconscious aspects and ways in which they have been creatively interpreted.
