Italian première, Spoleto54 Festival dei Due Mondi
"Corella Ballet, founded in 2008 by Spanish ballet star Angel Corella, is the youngest classical ballet company today and it is considered one of the most exciting. The 54th Edition of the "Festival dei Due Mondi" is its Italian première and they will perform four new ballets for the Italian audience" Alessandra Ferri Corella Ballet, Spains only classical ballet company, presents a mixed repertory program with many choreographies that have never been seen before in Italy. The first piece of the evening Bruch Violin Concerto is colourful and energy packed, choreographed by Clark Tippet to Max Bruch´s 1st Violin Concerto. The second section of the evening opens with Clear created by Stanton Welch for the American Ballet Theatre only two weeks after the tragic attacks of September 11, this expression of feelings is set to music from J.S.Bach and danced by 7 men and one woman. Following Clear, Angel and his sister Carmen Corella present Solea, voted as one of the top 10 performances by Dance Magazine, a unique virtuoso ballet-flamenco fusion created by Maria Pagés especially for the Corella siblings. Since its foundation it has premièred two full-length classical productions: La Bayadère and Swan Lake. It has more than 30 works in its repertoire. Mr. Corella′s brilliant professional career of many years has given him a vast knowledge of the ballet world and unique concepts for presenting dance. At this stage of his career, Corella is promoting an ambitious educational, artistic and cultural project consisting of a Residence School for Dancers and a Ballet Company. Mr. Corella formed a Foundation in Spain, in 2001, to promote classical dance in his home country that has been without a classical ballet company for the last 20 years.
ANGEL CORELLA was born in Madrid, where he began his ballet studies. In May 1991, Corella was awarded First Prize in the National Ballet Competition of Spain and in December 1994, he won the Grand Prix and Gold Medal at the Concours International de Danse de Paris. Corella joined the American Ballet Theatre as a Soloist in April 1995, and in August 1996 was promoted to Principal Dancer. In May 2000, Corella received the Prixe Benois de la Danse Award and in 2002, he was awarded The National Dance Prize of Spain.
