Concerto finale - Final Concert Viva l′Italia! - Long live Italy! music Giuseppe Verdi conductor James Conlon chorus master Salvatore Caputo Orchestra and Choir from the Teatro di San Carlo in Naples extraordinary commissary Salvatore Nastasi superintendent Rosanna Purchia principal guest conductor Maurizio Benini The indissoluble bond between Giuseppe Verdi, the Risorgimento and the Unification of Italy represents the main theme of the Festival′s Final Concert in Piazza Duomo. The Verdi music that we will hear this evening, carefully selected from the immense lyrical heritage left to humanity by the composer from Busseto, recalls feelings of patriotism, fight against foreign oppression, hunger for freedom and peace: those feelings that led, with enormous sacrifices and thousands of young lives cut short, towards the long-awaited national unity. Even the religious yearning moves Verdi′s inspiration: the pieces on the program are examples of a very high profile of sacred production of all times. In the incomparable setting of Piazza Duomo in Spoleto, the Choir and the Orchestra of the Teatro di San Carlo in Naples will be conducted by the American Maestro James Conlon, international star and current "Music Director of Los Angeles Opera."
