Marilù Prati and Renato Nicolini, with Mauro Maur on the trumpet and Françoise de Clossey at the piano, run through the history of the Risorgimento (Resurgence) in the mirror of the Myth, directed by Ugo Gregoretti. Anita dies at the age of 28, Goffredo Mameli at 21. The youth and the passion of those years are set against- not without irony - the cynicism of the present.
In Switzerland, on Mount Truth, the Myth meets our Motherland, Italy, dismayed and distressed on the eve of its 150th birthday. | Motherland and Myth are closely linked: the Motherland is one of the Myth′s form, and it was the Motherland′s myth which gave life to the Motherland. Amidst anthems (Novaro, Verdi, E. A. Mario) and poems (Goffredo Mameli, Giovanni Berchet, Giovanni Prati, Giosuè Carducci, Aleardo Aleardi), recalling the stories of Mameli, Anita, Margaret Fuller, the Roman Republic: 1948 from Reggio Calabria to Curtatone and Montanara to the Five Days of Milano, we encounter the myths of the Risorgimento: the Hero, the Poet, the fallen, Satan, that is, Progress. With enthusiasm, but not without irony, often with dual visions. The little cricket ("I am small, betrayed and dark") accompanies Prati′s war song, in Carducci, the Woman divides herself between the "royal eternal feminine" of Queen Margherita and Annie Vivanti′s confident boldness. |
